» 2011 MARION'S FAB FOURS |
This year's tournament was
held on 23rd July at Needham Market, raising funds to help the
county team attend the National Championships in November.
Although the entries were a
little down on last year the standard of bowling was, as usual,
first class.
After the group games and the
knock-out stage, a team all the way from Cambridgeshire, That's
All Folkes, and a team who had to be put together at the last
minute after a last minute withdrawal, No Hope, contested the
final.
In a closely contested game,
No Hope, consisting of Jean Simpson, Stan Aldous, Mick Watkins
and Andy Gilder managed to win on the last end.
The Suffolk Squad would like
to thank everyone who supported the event.

25 teams joined us at Tunstall
Village Hall for this year's Kelsale Fours Tournament, coming
from all across Suffolk, as well as entries from Essex and even
Bedfordshire.
Barking made it through to
the final having won their group on shots. They came through
their Quarter Final with an 11-6 win over Belstead and followed
that with a narrow 5-4 Semi-Final victory in a tight fought game
with Copdock.
The host club provided the
other finalists, Kelsale had scraped through the the group stage
as one of the runners-up. Their Quarter Final had seen them take
a 9-5 win over Tolgate, following which they overcame Chelmondiston
6-2 in the Semi-Final.
The Final itself was closely
fought with only one shot being scored per end through the first
4 ends, shared evenly between the 2 teams. The 5th end again
yielded just a single shot, but it saw Barking take the lead
of the game for the first time. They built on the lead with a
further 2 shots on the penultimate end and having all but sealed
victory then proceeded to take the final end to win 6-2.
The winning team was Mick &
Shirley Watkins, Sue Gilder and Rita Daniels.
We would like to thank everyone
who joined us and helped us to raise more than £600 for
Kelsale Village Hall. |

» 2011 GREAT BLAKENHAM LADIES TRIPLES |
We had a very enjoyable day
on Sunday 19th June with our Ladies Triples Competition.
12 teams competed split in
leagues, giving everyone a minimum of 3 games to play.
The winners of each league
Bentley, Cockfield and Bramford/Old Felixstowe along with the
best runner up Nacton 'B', then went through to the knock-out
stage.
The final was a very close
game between Bramford/Old Felixstowe and Cockfield played over
9 ends with the score on the 8th end being equal at 8 shots each,
a very close final end saw Bramford/Old Felixstowe score 1 shot
to end up as the winners with a score of 9-8.
Refreshments were available all day with bacon rolls going down
well.
We had a very good raffle with over 50 prizes, a tombola plus
another couple of fundraising games. Proceeds from these amounted
to £212 and will be donated to the East
Anglia Children's Hospices. |

» 2011 THURSTON CHARITY SUMMER FOURS |
The Thurston Summer Charity
Fours Competition 2011 took place on Sunday 19th June.
Rinks from Suffolk, Essex &
Cambridgeshire battled it out to get their name on the competition
shield. This years chosen charity was The West
Suffolk Voluntary Association for the Blind. The association
is run by volunteers and offers practical assistance and solutions
for the blind and partially sighted across the whole of Suffolk.
2011 saw first time entries
from Ashdon, Copdock, Harstead, Lawford, Lavenham and Polstead
playing alongside seasoned regulars. Twenty four teams, in six
groups, each playing 3 games in the round robin stage.
The six group winners; Harstead,
Fornham All Saints B, Polstead, Nayland, Stanningfield and Barking
were joined in the quarter final round by first and second runners
up; Brantham and Bramford.
Winning through the semi-final
stage saw rinks from Stanningfield and Bramford in the final.
Bramford took an early lead and while Stanningfield managed to
get four shots back on the second end, they couldnt stop
Bramford who went on to take the shield with an 11 5 win.
The wooden spoon was awarded
to the rink for Horringer who, despite some closely fought games,
could only manage five shots all day.
Trophies were presented by
Ken Snow from the WSVAB who, thanks to teams and spectators
generosity, will shortly receive a cheque for the £1000
plus raised on the day. |

» 2011 COCKFIELD INVITATION FOURS |
If at first you don't succeed.........
....follow the example of the Ashley quartet, who on Saturday
26 February won the Cockfield Invitation Fours trophy. They had
come second on the previous three occasions, but in this year's
final were too strong for runners up Hundon.
The trophies were presented
by Peter Harrison representing the East
Anglian Air Ambulance, one of the two charities to benefit
in this year's event - the other being MacMillan
Nurses.
Thank you very much from all
of us in the Cockfield Club to everyone who took part, for your
generosity. You helped us to raise £740 which will be shared
equally between these two worthy causes. Do come back again next
February for another enjoyable day's bowling, and help us to
raise even more money for them. |
