Wednesday the 6th May saw the
2009 running of the annual Suffolk League East v West clash,
an event started by Ron Smith and Steve Cain back in 1999.
Played with a great deal of
enthusiasm, pride is always at stake. Four rinks play twice against
the opposition, a total of 16 points available.
The first four games saw the
points split, with both teams winning two games, although the
West held an 11 shot advantage.
After a short break battle
commenced again, and the East came out with a great deal of determination.
In previous years this match has been won on shots, and they
were well aware that this could be the case again.
With the East having won two
of the second round games, and the West one, all eyes were on
the last game. The West rink, skipped by Sue Gilder, were three
shots down to the East team of Mervyn Bush. With the last wood
to play, Sue had made the three needed for a draw but just missed
out to win the game and the East finished over-all winners. Although
the West finished with 70 to 68 shot advantage, The East won
the Trophy 9 points to 7.
A great evening was had by
all involved and thanks go to all that helped organise it. |
