The 2025 Eastern Counties Champion of Champions was hosted by Cambridgeshire at Littleport on 11th May.

FOURS - Frank Wilkin, Glen Avis, Lauren De Banks, Tom Beckett
Beginning against Cambridgeshire, they weren’t off to a great start, 4-0 down after 2 ends, but they pulled the game back and with 2 ends to go were leading 7-4. Although the last couple of ends were dropped, they still came out of it with a 7-7 draw.

Against Essex, after being behind after the 3rd end, they pulled away, with a string of ones and twos, to win 8-5.

Bedfordshire were next up, and they were off to the better start, 4-0 up after 2 ends, and 8-5 up after 7 ends, but Suffolk came back, winning the last 2 ends for an 8-8 draw. Suffolk were only one point off leaders Herts.

Again, Suffolk gave their opposition a start, this time it was Norfolk, who were 3-0 up after 3 ends, but Suffolk came back, took the lead on the 5th end, and came home to an 8-5 win. That put them level at the top with Hertfordshire, who they would play in their final game.

The final game, against Hertfordshire didn't go so well, as Herts pulled away to win the game 14-2.

Suffolk finished third, on 6 points, two behind winners Hertfordshire.

TRIPLES - Sam Runnacles, Andy Pooley, David Ford
It wasn’t a great start to their first game, against Cambridgeshire. They were 4-0 down after 3 ends, but the next couple saw them take the lead 5-4, only to go 5-8 down over the next 3 ends. However, a 4 on the 8th end put them back in the lead, and they won the last to win the game 10-8.

Essex were next up, and although Suffolk didn’t run away with the game, they always had their noses just in front, finally winning 7-4.

After a couple of close games, Suffolk’s third game, against Bedfordshire, was more clear-cut, as they ran out 11-4 winners. They were now 2 points clear at the top.

Suffolk were off to a good start against Norfolk, 5-0 up after 3 ends, but it was all square 2 ends later. However, they took 5 shots over the next 3 ends, took the game 10-7, and with the other results falling exactly the right way, they were 4 points ahead with a game to go, and had won the title.

Against Hertfordshire, for their final game, they were ahead from the start, and although they were only a shot up after 5 ends, they brought it home for an 8-3 win.

They finished 4 points clear of second-placed Essex, and were the only ones in any of the disciples to win all 5 of their games.

PAIRS - Mick Watkins and Tony Stephenson
After picking up one on the first end against Cambridgeshire, they immediately fell behind, and were 1-6 after 5 ends. It was back to 3-6 an end later, but those shots were recouped on the next end, and the game end in a 4-9 loss.

A four dropped on the second end against Essex, meant they were always chasing, and never recovered, losing the game 11-4.

They finally hot their stride against Bedfordshire, dropping only 2 ends, and taking a comfortable 14-4 win.

They followed that with a second win, this time against Norfolk, comfortably beating Norfolk 11-1.

The final game was against Hertfordshire, who had all but wrapped up the title by this stage, and Suffolk never looked likely to win the game. They dropped 4 on the first end, and having pulled back to 3-4, promptly dropped a 3. They chipped back a couple, but were still 2 down going into the last end, but managed to take the 3 they needed to win the game.

That raised them to a thrid place finish, 2 off winners Herts, but it was a result that had an even bigger significance in regard to the team trophy.

SINGLES - Rita Runnacles
Rita was a last minute replacement for Ellen, who was not able to play.

Against David Foulkes of Cambridgeshire, this was a close one, with never more than a couple of shots in it. Rita led 2-0 after 2, which came back to 2-2, went out to 4-2 up, and back to 4-4, before Rita took the lead on the penultimate end, and then, holding one on the last, put in some great blockers to secure a 6-4 victory.

Colin Lord of Essex had won his first game easily, but Rita was already 4-0 up after 2 ends. It was a start that held her in good stead, although it was back to 5-5 after 7 ends. But Rita grabbed 2 on the 8th end, only dropped one on the last and came out 7-6 ahead, which put her at the top of the standings.

It was a slow start for Rita against Keith from Bedfordshire. She was 5-0 down after 4 ends, But she pulled 4 back on the next end, took the lead on the 7th end, 7-6, and only dropped one on the last end. That draw meant that Rita stayed top, one point ahead of Norfolk.

Rita finally met her match in Matt from Norfolk, not getting much of a look-in, as Matt ran away to a 10-3 win.

The final game was against Pete Cook of Hertfordshire, and while she was behind from the start, Pete never got far ahead, and the game was only just lost 6-7.

Rita finished 4th overall, on 5 points.

Overall
Five points against Cambridgeshire was a steady start, and put Suffolk third, 3 points behind Essex, and 1 behind Herts.

Six points against Essex put Suffolk onto 11 points overall, and tying them for first with Herts.

Another 6 points against Bedfordshire, and Suffolk were now on 17 points, one better than Essex, and 3 better than Hertfordshire.

Yet another 6 points against Norfolk extended Suffolk’s lead at the top to 2 points over Hertfordshire, who they would be playing in the final session.

Having won the Triples game, and lost the Fours, Suffolk needed 2 points from the Singles and Pairs. Both were behind for the entire game, and looked unlikely to get the poitns Suffolk needed, but the Pair's last minute win was enough to secure Suffolk the Team title.

Despite Hertfordshire winning the Singles, Pairs and Fours, Suffolk's greater consistency meant that they were able to finish top, on 27 points, 2 points clear of Herts.
