Richard and Steven won their
first games and then met in the next set of game. The game went
to Steven 7-5, which meant that he had a 2 point lead going into
the final group games.
Steven only needed a draw from
that last game to qualify, but took a comfortable win over Ralph
to win the group with maximum points.

With Trevor unable to play
it came down to a fight between David, Jim and Lin.
Unfortunately for Jim he was
edged out by both of his opponents which left David and Lin to
play off for a place in the final.
David raced out to a 6-0 lead
early on and by the penultimate end had an unbeatable 9-4 lead,
although Lin took all four on that end to finish 8-9 down.
Final
Steven Cain (Gt Blakenham)
v David Ford (Gt Blakenham)
The Final came down to perhaps
the two favourites, who were not only club teammates but also
partners in the Pairs.
End 1 The last wood
does all the damage as David takes Steven's shot wood out to
give himself 3.
End 2 David lands his second wood on the jack. Steven
is forced to run at it, makes contact, but the jack goes clean
off. 5-0 to David.
End 3 This time David is short and Steven takes full advantage,
taking out David's nearest wood with his last to give himself
the maximum 4 shots. 5-4 to David.
End 4 Steven is firing on all cylinders now. His first
wood in front of the jack, second and third behind as David fails
to reach until his third which is fired in to cut the count down
to one. And his final wood is also played with weight and looks
like it might have backfired, but he's still only one down. All
square at 5-5.
End 5 Now Steven is short until his last wood which is
good enough for second. David declines to bowl his last and is
back into the lead at 6-5.
End 6 Now David struggles while Steven prospers. David
finally reaches the jack with his last wood to cut it down to
1. This time it's Steven who doesn't bowl his last. 6-6.
End 7 The familiar to and fro continues. David holds two
while Steven is short. With the jack having been loved back and
to the side of the carpet David draws a blocker across the line
into the perfect spot. Steven's last wood connects squarely with
the blocker and David doesn't need to bowl his last as he takes
2 to win 8-6 and take the title for the first time.

Kelsale A and Blakenham won
their first games and faced one another in their next. It was
a close one as Kelsale took a shot on three of the first four
ends while the other was tied and Blakenham finished with one
on each of the last 3 ends to finish the game in a 3-3 draw and
leave both teams on 3 points, seperated by a single shot. With
Kelsale B having won one and lost one the group could go any
one 3 ways.
However both Kelsale teams
lost so it was Gt Blakenham that came through undefeated to win
the group.

With everyone having played
twice it was all square with each team have won one and lost
one. However with Old Felixstowe and Gt Blakenham holding a healthy
shot advantage over the other two teams added to the fact that
they would play one another in the final game, the winner looked
likely to be one of the two.
While Claydon won their final
game to finish one 4 points it was Gt Blakenham who won the group
as Old Felixstowe barely got a look in, losing 8-1. Blakenham
getting through with a 5 shot margin.
Final
Andy Pooley & David O'Brien
(Gt Blakenham B) v Steven Cain & David Ford (Gt Blakenham
A)
Another all Blakenham final
with Steven and David defending their title.
End 1 With 'A' holding
2 Andy chipped the jack to the side of the carpet with his first
wood and then drew to it twice to take 2. 'B' lead 2-0.
End 2 - 'B' make the early running but Steven takes shot with
his last wood. 'B' lead 2-1.
End 3 'B' have a wood jack high early on but 'A' take
shot with their last wood and Andy's last rolls another in for
the opposition. 'A' lead 3-2.
End 4 Early advantage to 'A' with a wood on top of the
jack. The jack is moved but 'A' still hold and they now lead
4-2.
End 5 David Ford's early woods put the opposition under
pressure and they have to take repeated attempts to move the
jack, which only happens with the final wood, but the end still
goes to 'A' who are now 5-2 up with two ends to play.
End 6 'B' hold 2 and Andy makes it 3 with his first. Steven
immediately moves the jack to cut the count down to 1, but Andy
draws second. One end to go and now there's only one shot in
it. 5-4 to 'A'.
End 7 The early lead belongs to 'A' and they keep it as
the jack gets moved. However Andy manages to punch one of his
woods up, leaving it in front of the jack which is off to the
side and with some protection at the front. There is nothing
that Steven can do so it's all square at 5-5, time for an extra
end.
End 8 With the jack pushed back 'B' hold and 'A' consistently
fail to get close enough. Andy's penultimate wood draws right
to the jack and Steven can't get close, leaving 'B' with 3 shots,
to completing a massive comeback to win 8-5.

Belstead and Barking A won
their opening games, but while Belstead won their second, Barking
lost. So the two teams headed into what would be the deciding
game, with Belstead holding a 2 point and 8 shot advantage.
Belstead knew that they would
not even need to win the game so long as they kept the shot defecit
under 8. A simple enough task you would think, but not so. Barking
were on it right from the start, nailing the jack while their
opponents struggled badly, and chipping away at their target.
Remarkably by the sixth end Barking led 8-0 and the job was all
but done, all they needed to do was to prevent Belstead from
scoring on the last end. But finally Belstead found the jack,
got woods into the head and Barking couldn't get in. Belstead
took 4 shots and that was enough to see them through.

Cockfield and Brockley opened
up with wins, and although Cockfield won their second game while
Brockley lost, they still had to play one another. Cockfield
would qualify with just a draw, while a win for Brockley would
open it up for them and Kelsale, if they could win their last.
As it was Kelsale lost so it
was just down to Cockfield and Brockley.
Brockley started well and were
never behind in the game. However just winning was not enough,
they needed a 2 shot margin, so with Brockley leading 6-3 it
all came down to the last end, which Brockley took to see themselves
through.
Final
John & Sue Holder,
Barrie Stokes and John Hayward
(Belstead) v Neil & Keith Jolly and Jonothan & Joey
Stones (Brockley)
End 1 With Belstead
holding 3 Brockley's no.3 drew shot and they kept it to take
the end. 1-0 to Brockley.
End 2 Belstead get shot early on in the end and hang on
to it before adding a second at the end. 2-1 to Belstead
End 3 Belstead again have their noses in front, but as
the end goes on the head gets more crowded and they have to block
to hold on to what they've got. Managing to do so they take 2
to lead 4-1.
End 4 A lonely Belstead wood hangs in to hold shot until
Brockley's penultimate wood, which takes shot, but only the one.
4-2 to Belstead.
End 5 This time it's a lonely Brockley wood that's hanging
on for shot as they try to throw blockers in the way, all of
which fail to stop the Belstead skip snatching shot with his
last wood. 5-2 to Belstead.
End 6 Brockley hold, but no one is really troubling the
jack until late on in the end. Belstead move the jack to hold
4, but Brockley's skip takes shot and holds on. 5-3 to Belstead.
End 7 This time Brockley have the jack nailed early on.
Belstead can't get close and as Brockley add to their count Belstead
succeed only in blocking themselves out. Brockley have enough
and make sure they keep them, taking 4 to take a last gasp 7-5
win.
