Mick Watkins and Neil Tuckey started well by winning their first games in what looked to be the toughest of the Singles groups. They followed up with wins in their second games, so with the other two players out of the picture the scene was set for what would be the deciding game.

But the expected close-fought game never materialised. Mick took the lead on the third end and never looked back, running out to a 9-1 lead after six ends at which point Neil threw in the towel, with the game already beyond him.

Lin Cooke and Pete Runnacles won their first games, but while Lin followed that up with a second win, Pete lost to John Varden. This left Lin 2 points clear with one game to play and needing no more than a draw against Pete, to qualify. In the end she took the win to finish with a clean sweep of her group games.

The Final
This year's finalists were also the runners-up from the previous two years. However Mick had won the title on two previous occasions and on that basis looked to be the favourite. But it was Lin who held the early advantage, winning each of the first 3 ends, to hold a 4-0 advantage. Mick stopped the rot by winning the next 2 ends, to trail by just 2 shots with 2 ends still to go. However a game that looked like it was going all the way came to an abrupt halt as Lin moved the jack with her last wood of the penultimate end to go from 1 up to 3 up and take an unassailable 7-2 lead.

The final end was played out, with Mick taking a single shot to leave Lin with a 7-3 victory, making her only the second lady to take the title.

Blakenham and Brockley were the winners in the first round of games and the early leaders. The two teams played one another in the next game and it was Brockley that came out on top with a 6-3 win to hold a comfortable advantage in the group. However as Blakenham swept their way to an impressive win in their last game Brockley had fallen behind in their game against Barking meaning that all of a sudden any one of three teams could make it through. However Brockley clawed their way back to a hard earned draw with 2 shots on the last end, which was just enough to see them through.

Hoggards and Barking won both their first and second games leaving the two of them to play off for a place in the final. However Hoggards had the shot advantage going into the game and knew that they would only need a draw to qualify. At the midway point Barking held a 3 shot lead, but Hoggards came back to draw level going into the last end, but it was Barking who took the one shot they needed on the final end to win the game and the group.

The Final
Barking took the first two ends of the final, but with only one shot on each and the next end saw Brockley draw level. But it was the fourth end on which the whole game hinged. Brockley took a decisive 5 shots, sweeping into a lead which they were never going to let go away. Two more shots on the 6th end put them 6 shots up and on the last ned they needed to do no more than defend their advantage, which they did, finishing 9-4 winners to regain the title.

Kelsale and Cockfield won their first games which they each followed up with a draw meaning that the fate of the group would be decided by the result of their game, however having conceded one shot less in their games Cockfield would need just a draw. In the end Cockfield came home to a 6-5 win which saw them comfortably through.

Old Felixstowe and Barking began with wins, but while Barking followed up with a second win Old Felixstowe lost, although with their final game being against Barking both they and Brockley still had a chance. As it was Barking swept to an impressive 16-0 win over Old Felixstowe to win the group by a comfortable margin.

The Final
It is fair to say that Barking would have gone into the final as favourites, even without their impressive showing in the group stage, but the game did not go the way they and most observers would have imagined. Cockfield doggedly took a single shot on each of the first 4 ends, constantly frustrating their opponents. But Barking came back, taking 2 shots on end 5 and one more on the penultimate end to trail by just one. The final end saw Barking holding a single shot throughout most of the end, deciding to block early on in order to take the game to an extra end, but Cockfield were not prepared to settle and with the final shot of the game successfully pulled off an improbable looking shot to sqeeze the jack to one of their own woods to take the end and the title.

The final started well for Barking who picked up 3 on the first end. However Brockley pulled it back, taking one shot on each of the next 2 ends, to trail by just a single shot. But Barking restored their 3 shot lead on the 4th end. The next end went to Brockley and the lead was down again to 2 shots. The penultimate end saw Barking one shot up with their skip still having the final wood still to bowl. However instead of taking the shot that would have taken him into the last end with a 3 shot lead, he took the decision to try and remove Brockley's nearest wood. However what he actually managed to do was to remove his own wood and hand the end to the opposition, leaving Brockley just 1 shot in arrears going into the final end. A good decision as far as their opponents and the spectators were concerned, not so much for him and his team. But luckily the final end went the way of Barking, negating the previous end's misstep and seeing them home to a 6-4 win.
