January League Round-Up
Division
1
Knodishall A
are in an increasingly comfortable position now, edging further
ahead of their nearest competitors Walpole & Cookley,
although a very good run of 53 points from 5 games has pushed
Knodishall B up into contention for the runner-up spot.
Division
2
Reydon
are still in pole position for the Division 2 title, with Wissett
and Leiston St Margarets FC looking as if they will be
the other 2 teams heading for promotion. Meanwhile Riverside
have picked up 40 points from their last 4 games and have clawed
their way back up to mid-table respectability.

Heritage Pairs
Of
the 10 group winners from the round robin stages there were 4
teams who had perfect records of 4 wins out of 4. Knodishall
E, Kelsale D, Walpole & Cookley C and Knodishall
B. One other team, Wenhaston A were undefeated, with
3 wins and a draw, and the other 5, Knodishall F, Reydon
C, Sizewell A, Kelsale A and Reydon A
all won 3 and lost 1.
They were joined
in the knockout stages by the 6 best runners-up, Knodishall
C, Walpole & Cookley A, Darsham A, Wenhaston
B, Orford A and Kelsale C, all of whom made
their way through with 6 points.
The First Round
saw comfortable wins for Walpole A over Reydon C (14-1),
Kelsale D over Orford A (12-1) and Darsham A over
Reydon A (14-2), while Wenhaston A took a close 6-2 win
over Kelsale C. Sizewell A held on to beat Knodishall
B 6-4, as did Knodishall E in their 6-5 defeat over Walpole
C and Kelsale A who were 4 shots ahead with 2 ends to
go but only finished 5-4 up over Knodishall C. But the true epic
of the round came in the match between Wenhaston B and Knodishall
F. Wenhaston started well and were 4-1 ahead 3 ends in, but with
6 ends played it had switched around to a 6-4 lead for Knodishall,
however 2 shots to Wenhaston on the final end took the game to
an extra end which was tied with touching woods for both teams,
before the game was finally settled in Wenhaston's favour
on a record 9th end.
The Quarter
Finals paired both remaining Knodishall teams, finishing in an
easy 11-2 win to Knodishall E. Walpole A started their
game against Sizewell A weel, going 5-0 up after 3 ends, but
Sizewell won all the remaining ends to finish 10-5 ahead.
Kelsale D's 6-2 win over Darsham A was much closer than
the final score shows and Wenhaston A hung on to beat
Kelsale A 9-7.
The Semi Finals
saw a win for Kelsale D of 9-2 over Knodishall E and a
much closer 5-3 win for Sizewell A who came from behind
to beat Wenhaston A 5-3.
The final was
more one-sided than it should have been as Kelsale D ran
out 12-0 winners over Sizewell A.

Heritage Fours
Although
the lads from Walpole & Cookley won out on the day,
their route to the title was by no means as easy as it had looked
as though it would be, early on.
They had breezed
through the round robin stages with 4 wins out of 4, scoring
44 shots and conceding only 9. And they were one of only two
teams from the 21 present, to take maximum points in their group
games, the others being Sizewell B. The other group winners
were Knodishall B and Sizewell A, who would be
joined in the knockout stages by Wenhaston (who only squeezed
through by virtue of having conceeded less shots than Orford),
Middelton A, Knodishall E and Riverside,
who managed to make their way though with only 2 wins out of
their 4 games, just ahead of 2 other teams in their group who
did the same.
It was only
at this stage that Walpole really had to work. Their Quarter
Final game against Knodishall B went down to the final end which
they had gone into with a 3 shot lead, coming out of it just
1 ahead, winning 5-4.
Group winners
Sizewell B were drawn against Knodishall E whom they had already
beaten once, something which they were unable to repeat as they
went from 2-0 up after 2 ends to lose 2-9.
Previously
unbeaten Sizewell B met their match in Middleton A who really
didn't let Sizewell get a look-in as they won 6-1. And there
was an equally comfortable win for Wenhaston as they overcame
Riverside 9-2.
For the Semi
Finals Knodishall E took on Middleton A and all but cruised through
as they lost just 1 end in their 8-3 victory. But again it was
hard work for Walpole in their game against Wenhaston. This time
it was just 1 shot an end, shared equally by the 2 teams over
the 6 ends, forcing an extra, deciding end which Walpole took
to win 4-3.
And into the
Final they finally looked to have met their match. Knodishall
started strongly, taking 3 on the first end and holding a 4-1
lead with just 3 ends to go. But Walpole fought their way back,
drawing level on the 5th end and taking the next and final end
to win 5-4, repeating the winning margin from both their previous
games.

November League Round-Up
Division
1
Knodishall A
have now made their way to the top, continuing their strong start.
Walpole & Cookley have games in hand which should
put them in a position to challenge the leaders, once they have
caught up, although it remains to be seen how much of an effect
their change of venue will have on their chances. Meanwhile Kelsale
have slowed after a good start and are now starting to slip back
off the pace, as are Knodishall B, while Sizewell B
are starting to get their act together are are rising up the
table.
Division
2
After
a very average start from Reydon they put together a stunning
set of results in November, picking up 39 points in just 3 games,
to fire them to to the top of the division and putting them way
out in front in the early running for the title. This leaves
the former front runners Wissett, Leiston St Marg FC
and Middleton to gather themselves up and begin the chase
in the new year.

Walpole & Cookley
Unfortunately
the club will no longer be able to use the school for their home
games. However they have been able to arrange a new venue at
Holton
Village Hall.
The move will
also mean a change of match night to Thursdays, but Pat Jones
will be in touch with all the relevant clubs to rearrange the
games.
The fixtures list has been updated accordingly.

October League Round-Up
Division
1
Although
they are currently lying in only third place, Knodishall A
have clearly made the best start and are now the only undefeated
team in the First Division. Strong starts also for Kelsale,
Walpole & Cookley and Knodishall B, although
each of those teams has slowed a little after good wins in their
first couple of games.
Division
2
Wissett
are the the clear front runners in Division 2 at this early stage,
having won 4 out of 4 to date. Meanwhile Middleton show
signs of a return to form after a couple of years in the doldrums
and Leiston St Marg FC and Yoxford have made promising
starts.

Heritage Charity Fours
This year's
entry of 55 teams matched last year's with a 50/50 split between
teams from inside and outside of the league.
Many thanks to everyone who contributed to the event and helped
us to raise £1400 for this year's charities.
First Round
Out of 11 groups only 3 teams made it through the Round Robin
stage with perfect records, Darsham, Nayland B
and Tithe Barn B, in contrast Snape somehow managed
to win their group with just 5 points.
Thurston A 0-11 Claydon A
Nayland B 5-7 Gilkins
Wenhaston A 5-2 Tithe Barn B

Semi Finals
Knodishall

Wenhaston A 13-2 Langham B
Final
After a pair of semi finals which were very one-sided affairs
we were treated to an superb final with two very evenly matched
teams that went all the way to the very final shot of the game.
Going into the final end Wenhaston held a one shot advantage
and were holding a further shot with all their woods bowls, but
Claydon's final shot reversed the score, taking them from one
down to three up in one fell swoop, and taking the game 6-4.

Good News
We are very
pleased to say that Amber have now comfirmed that they
have been able sign up some new players and as a result they
will definitely be competing in the League for the forthcoming
season.
As a result
we will be sticking with the original 2008/9 fixtures lists.
However they
have decided not to take part in the Cup, giving them more time
to fulfil their League match obligations.
As a result
the draw for the Cup will remain unaltered.
|
|
Pre-Season Meeting
Although this
meeting had been arranged in order to do little more than make
the draw for the initial stages of the Knockout Cup, another
matter came up earlier in the day which also had to be discussed.
A few hours
before the meeting the League was advised that Amber had taken
the decision to withdraw from the forthcoming season, due to
a lack of players.
Amber's withdrawal
potentially left us with an imbalance between the two divisions,
ie 10 teams in Division 1 and 8 teams in Division 2. It was therefore
suggested that Knodishall B, who had only been reprieved from
demotion last season by the withdrawal of Thorpeness at the end
of last season, should be demoted after all.
On discussing
the possibility the representative from Knodishall B said that
although the team did not want to be demoted it was something
about which they would be prepared to accept the League's decision,
given that under normal circumstances they would have been relegated.
A vote was
therefore taken and it was decided that Knodishall B would have
their relegation reinstated in order that Divisions 1 and 2 would
have 9 teams each for the forthcoming season.
In order to
cause as little disruption as possible, this late in the day,
Knodishall B's Division 1 fixtures have been deleted and they
will take up Amber's Division 2 fixtures.
Revised fixture
lists have been drawn up and will be sent out to all clubs as
soon as possible.
