Bowling
for the Suffolk Team
Matches and Competitions: The Suffolk team is involved in each
season:
Eastern Counties League: Five matches, one per month between
November and March, against Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex,
Hertfordshire and Norfolk. A match involves six rinks (fours)
per county playing three, nine end games each, starting at 10.30am.
Home matches are at Needham Market and venues for the other counties
are usually Barton le Clay (Beds), Milton (Cambs), Braintree
(Essex), Ware (Herts) and Wortwell (Norfolk).
Six Counties: Held in April at Braintree Leisure
Centre. Every county has six rinks, each playing one game against
each of the other five counties.
Charity Teambowl: Held in September at Littleport Leisure
Centre. Every county having four singles, pairs and triples,
each play one game against each of the other five counties.
National County Championship: Held over a weekend in October or
November, at Potters, Hopton-on-Sea.
On the Friday night there is a match between the Eastern Counties
League winner and the Northern League winner.
The main competition played over Saturday and Sunday, currently
involves Suffolk, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire,
Norfolk, Durham, Northumberland and Sunderland. Every county
has six rinks, each playing one game against each of the other
counties.
Bowlers selected are subsidised by the SCBA and ECBA, with money
deducted directly from accommodation costs. Squad fundraising
subsidies (see below) are paid directly to bowlers in cash at
the weekend.
Suffolk Squad Fundraising: They run the Random Triples, Marions
Fab Fours and Chairmans Triples to raise funds for the
Nationals team. The subsidy each bowler receives relates to the
number of fundraising events they attend.
Dress: Suffolk play in a white shirt/blouse and grey
trousers/skirt. The SCBA pay for a new bowlers first uniform
and we have a fund that subsidises any additional items.
Cost: There is no cost attached to bowling for Suffolk
in the above events, as the SCBA pay the entry fees. The bowlers
car-share in travelling to away venues.
There is an accommodation cost at the National County Championships,
but this is reduced after available subsidies.
