TEAM BOWL
» 29th November 2009
This year's
Team Bowl saw each of the teams playing against 4 other teams
in each of the 3 disciplines, after which the top 4 teams would
go on to play in the knockout stages.
After the first
round of games 5 teams were on the maximum 6 points, Knodishall
C, Darsham, Knodishall D, Wenhaston
and Walpole & Cookley A.
The second
round of games saw those on maximum points cut down to just 2,
Walpole & Cookley A who, having taken the lead, were
going to stay there for the remainer of the day and Wenhaston.
Just behind the leading pair were Darsham and Yoxford
who had each dropped just 1 point.
Walpole
& Cookley A
dropped their first points of the day in the third round and
were now on 16 points, along with Knodishall C. Having
been 12th after the first round and 6th after the second, Kelsale
A had now moved up to third on 14 points, along with Wenhaston
who had dropped a couple of spots.
The final round
of games saw Walpole & Cookley A secure qualification
first and go on to finish on 22 points, losing just one of their
12 games. But behind them everyone seemed to be doing their best
to avoid progressing to the next stage. Kelsale A gained
another 4 points which was enough to get them second place, 4
points behind Walpole and although Knodishall C could
only manage 2 points from 3 games, that was enough for third
place. Meanwhile Wenhaston could also do no better than
1 win out of 3 games which left them on 16 points, Darsham
lost all 3 games to finish on 13 points and Yoxford were
another team who were able to add no more than 2 points, also
finishing on 13 points. All of which meant that all 3 of them
were leapfrogged by Knodishall B who took all 6 points
from their 3 games to move up from 7th to take the last qualifying
spot.

The Semi Finals
saw a clean sweep for Walpole & Cookley A in their
match against Knodishall B, while Kelsale A could
only win the singles against a Knodishall C team who took
both the triples and pairs games to make it into the final.
Walpole
& Cookley A
took first blood in the final as they took the singles, but Knodishall
C won the pairs meaning that the overall result rested on
the triples. However the result was in little doubt from early
on in the game and in the end the margin was such that there
was no need to play the final end as Knodishall C took
the game and the match to secure the title.
